Happy New Year!
I had a grrreat time offline. I am well rested and ready to start 2018!
For lots of folks, the start of a new year means a new beginning or a fresh start. That’s when most folks are excited about new possibilities like starting their own business and motivated like never before to take that leap of faith.
I mean, just the idea of telling your boss to take his job and shove it kind of gets the emotions going, right?
But when you sit down to plan your future business the happy movie music playing in your head abruptly stops when you realize it’s going to take some work to get a business launched.
Things like start-up costs, inventory, and office space stops the dream dead in its tracks when it turns out that it’s going to take money, inventory and a place to set up shop.
But don’t lose hope just yet!
If you stop to think about it, there are lots of businesses you can do online and you don’t need to rent out office space for it because you’re running it from home.
15 Reasons To Start a Blogging Business
We are living in a digital world, so it would only make sense to be where most people are at – the internet.
Of all the online businesses you can do, the one that doesn’t require experience and easy to start is a blogging business, also known as freelance blogging.
And blogging is obviously catching on. WP Virtuoso says there are about 152 million blogs and about 172 thousand are added on the daily.
Now before you start to think that it’s a crowded market, think of all the things you can blog about. I mean, the possibilities are endless.
If you’re still not sure whether starting a blogging business is the right business for you, check out these reasons why you should.
#1 Easy set up
Let’s start with the obvious here. Starting a blogging business is relatively easy. All you need to do is register with your state as self-employed, find a niche to blog about and get a web designer to create a website for you.
Of course there’s more to running a blog, but that’s a whole other blog post and one I’ll post later this month.
#2 Low Start-up costs and recurring expenses
It doesn’t cost much to start a blog and the monthly expenses are at the low end as well.
As a matter of fact, if you’re starting with a budget of zero, you can still start a blog for FREE.
#3 No experience necessary
That’s right. You don’t need any writing experience to start a blog. But you do have to know how to make complete sentences and use punctuation.
Other than that, you pick a topic, do some research and just start writing.
By freedom, I mean you can set your own hours and days you want to work. This makes it easier to do other things like volunteering or take the kids to school.
#5 Short learning curve
It doesn’t take much time to get the hang of blogging. Before you know it, you’re writing a blog post quicker and you’re breezing through your blog’s dashboard.
And there is so much help around the internet that there is no way you can fail.
What Blogging Can Do For You
Now that I covered the basics, here’s a look at what blogging can do for you.
#6 Confidence booster
When you’re starting with zero experience and someone comments on a blog post to tell you how helpful it was or emails you to thank you for helping him or her, it can be a real confidence booster.
It gets even better when you have other bloggers approach you to ask if they can guest post on your blog.
That confidence is what’s going to feed your passion!
#7 Improve your writing skills
When I started blogging I was barely getting out 300 to 500 words per post. At that time I thought I was the bee’s knees. But then bloggers like Ryan Biddulph showed us how to tell relatable stories with each blog posts and the new trend of writing 1,000 words or more was born.
If you’re wondering whether you’ll be able to hit 1,000 words or more per post, just remember that old saying “practice makes perfect.” Because the more you write, the better writer you become.
And if you’re serving the whole enchildada in your blog post, meaning, you’re giving the reader the who, what, when, where and how, writing 1,000 should be easy to achieve.
#8 Become an influencer
You can use your blog to promote your favorite brands by becoming an influencer. Some bloggers even go on to become brand ambassadors.
#9 Grow a following
Who doesn’t want to become internet famous. When you provide valuable information, engage with your audience and show your human side, you’ll build a loyal following.
#10 Make money
Besides becoming an influencer, there are other ways to make money blogging. You can sell ad space, publish paid content and take on other paid blogging gigs.
#11 Open doors to other opportunities
Blogging can also open doors to other new business opporutnities. You can write an eBook, create an online course or even become a web designer. When it comes to the possibilities to grow, the sky’s the limit!
What You Can Do For Others As A Blogger
Not only can blogger help you but it can also help others. Take a look at what your blog can do for your audience.
#12 Be a voice for those who have none
Maybe you don’t want to blog for money, you would rather blog about things that are important to you. I know someone who works for an attorney and she went on to start a blog for a non-profit organization to provide legal aid for those who can’t afford an attorney.
#13 Share your knowledge
When you share your knowledge with your audience, you’re providing a service. You’re solving a problem, answering a question, or giving them a starting point.
#14 Become an important resource for others
This goes with #13. I mean, just imagine how you feel when you’re searching for something online and finally find it. That blogger or source of resource will become one of if not the go-to site for your information.
#15 Inspire others to start their own blog
That’s right, Y.O.U. can be an inspiration and inspire others to start their own blog. Especially if you tell your story about how you started – struggles and all.
