How To Write Stand-Out SEO Content

Everyone wants to write SEO content that gets your website to the top of search results. After all, we can see from our own searches that we are inclined to choose websites from the top few results, especially if we’re in a hurry.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) plays a crucial role in getting your website noticed by the search engines. If you want to secure that all-important page one ranking on Google, you will need to make sure that your SEO is up to scratch.

But how exactly do you go about creating SEO content that gets your website noticed?

1. Do Your Research

Great SEO content will have a primary keyword as the focus of the content, as well as multiple secondary keywords.

But what exactly is a keyword? Contrary to the name, a keyword doesn’t have to be a single word. In fact, you’ll often find that longer phrases (often referred to as long-tail keywords) will be the most effective for getting your website ranked highly.

Your chosen keywords should be words or phrases that people might use to search for information on the topic that you’re writing about. For example, keywords for an article about a rabbit’s diet may include ‘best rabbit food’ and ‘foods toxic to rabbits’.

Take a look at the content that your competitors have published on similar topics as well. Investigate what they’ve included, but more importantly, what they haven’t included. This will allow you to find a gap that you can use for your own content.

2. Outline Your Article

First of all, you’ll need to decide what your piece will be about. Try to think of a new and innovative angle for your topic. This will help to engage your readers and increase your credibility with the search engines. Your topic will need to be broad enough to cover your chosen keywords. But not so wide that it begins to lose focus.

When you have chosen your topic, you’ll need to think of a catchy title. This should tell the reader what the article is about, but also keep them interested so that they can’t help but click on your content to find out more.

Next, break your content down into subsections, with subheadings. These subheadings tell the search engines exactly what’s in your content, so it’s important to ensure that they contain your chosen keywords.

This is also the time to do your in-depth research. You’ve already checked out your competitors’ content, so you know what you need to write about to make your content useful. Now it’s time to learn all you can about your chosen topic so that you can write an interesting and valuable article.

3. Get Writing

After creating a detailed outline, it’s time to start writing. It’s best to get your most important keywords into the content as early as possible, preferably within the first sentence, or at least within the introductory paragraph. However, don’t be tempted to keyword stuff, otherwise it may impact the natural flow of your content and have a detrimental impact on your SEO.

It’s also a good idea to add your primary keyword to your final sentence if possible, or at least place it within your conclusion. This will help to emphasize it and ensure that the search engines know what you want them to index.

4. Include links Within Your SEO Content

Including external hyperlinks within your SEO content can also help to improve your search engine rankings, but it’s important to choose high-authority content which is directly relevant to your topic. This will help to build the authority and trust of your own website.

It’s also a good idea to include internal links within your content which point to other areas of your website. This will show your readers where you want them to go next and can help to reduce your website’s bounce rate by retaining your readers for longer.

5. Share

There’s no point in creating great content unless you’re going to share it with the world. Post your content onto your social media channels and encourage colleagues, friends and customers to share it with their own contacts. The more times that your content is shared, the more chance it will have of ranking highly on search engines.

To Sum It Up

SEO can feel like a minefield, especially when you’re just getting started. It can be worth considering hiring a professional to ensure that you hit your goals (the average price of an SEO specialist is around $370 per month). If you do choose to have a go at it yourself, make sure that you know what you’re doing – badly done SEO can be harmful to your website, and therefore the success of your business.
